S3E5: Hospitality in the Creative Process with guest Steven Homestead
This episode is a conversation with multidisciplinary artist, Steven Homestead…. Such a beautiful conversation around the topic of hospitality- how the artist welcomes the ideas and the process, as well as Steven’s experience inviting his communities into art making. There is so much to glean for the creative journey as well as a wonderful contemplation this season as some celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation - the time that Mary said “yes” to being hospitable to Jesus within her.
Steven Homestead is a renaissance creative based in Southern California, whose journey weaves together curating for the Boca de Oro Festival of Literary Arts and Culture, teaching data visualization at Coastline College, and numerous genre-spanning creative projects. Over the past decade, he has served as a leader with the arts ministry at Saddleback Church , recently expanding to help support a new arts ministry at Mariners Church. Deepening his work, he helped found the Heart to Heart program for Christians in the Visual Arts in 2020, and in 2021 joined Shepherd Heart Ministry Consulting as a Creative Consultant. He is currently working on a book while dreaming up a nation-wide roadtrip to catalyze arts and faith communities in North America. In all, he works to promote honor, champion voice, share wonder, and develop unity.

Jane Boutwell is an artist & creative coach based in Atlanta, Georgia. She loves to nurture and empower others to pursue their creative callings.
"I am an artist with an inquisitive mind, a heart connected to nature and a soul yearning towards God…a child of dirt and dance…a beauty bringing blessing writer… a poetic painter and potter.
Starting with mud pies as a child in the backyard, my creativity includes tactile, intuitive, and deeply-in-touch-with-nature ways of being in the world. I see myself as an apprentice in God’s art studio of the natural world that is full of metaphor, imprinted with the character of the Maker.
It is my passion to share the shimmering beauty and deep truths I find in the creative medium that seems most fitting. Those creative expressions include gardening, quilting, writing, painting, sketching, ceramics, dancing, creative coaching, podcasting, and family life with my husband and four children in Tucker/Atlanta, Georgia."
